SIGHTSEERS (2012)

Is it horror? Is it thriller? Nooo.. it’s British dark comedy! This is the weirdest love story and most dysfunctional couple in the history of British film-making (or ever). Yup, it’s definitely fresh.

BATTLESHIP (2012)

Despite the bashing, Battleship as sci-fi action flick is definitely delivered without a hitch. It’s pure entertainment as it should be. Special FX junkies be prepared for the feast. Also, I suspect Michael Bay secretly directed Battleship under the pseudonym Peter Berg.

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2012)

A fresh horrifying terror from Whedon and Goddard. Prepare to witness Pandora’s Box unleashed. Cabin in the Woods is your worst nightmare(s).

TAKEN 2 (2012)

A total crapabonanza. A waste of a terrific actor. Travel tips : Always pack a case full of grenades in case of abduction.

A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING (2012)

A Fantastic Fear of Everything looks like something made for a quirky visual art project. .. or something from Lemony Snicket book directed by Michel Gondry.

JOHN CARTER (2012)

Only the last 30 minutes are worth a watch. The rest? You can have yourself a rest.

THE LORAX (2012)

Adorably funny and lovable. The Lorax is a classic tale with a strong and touching environmental message. It could’ve been better if they showed more of the story of The Lorax itself and the forest’s animals (which was the only best part of this film, sadly). Still, very recommendable for children.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK (2012)

Nothing extraordinary about this “Harry Potter and The Haunted Mansion”. It’s a classic ghost story with a classic spook. I have always liked Daniel Radcliffe’s acting (outside Harry Potter, frankly) but what makes The Woman in Black less believable is the fact that he still looks too young to appear married with a child. Other…

EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE (2012)

I understand why most critics giving Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close bad reviews. I know how odd and peculiar the story and (specially) Oskar are. If you’re familiar with Foer’s novels, you’d know that they are always that quirky (see Everything Is Illuminated which has been also adapted to the big screen played by Elijah…

UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING (2012)

I cannot say how much of a disappointment this fourth installment is. The story line is awfully messy, incoherent, and looks like it’s trying to copy Resident Evil. Underworld Awakening is more violent, darker, and gory. It’s full action-packed badassery. Don’t bother trying to follow the story. Pretty much plotless. Just enjoy the brutality.

A DANGEROUS METHOD (2012)

A Dangerous Method is a wonderland for psychology enthusiasts. The highly intellectual psychoanalysis talk isn’t that much engaging for most general audience. 3 splendid and provocative performances from Fassbender, Mortensen and specially Knightley (damn, she gave full measure) are the only biggest appeals that make this film actually worth a watch. Also, what kind of…

WAR HORSE (2012)

Despite of being a tiresome 2 hour sit through, I was surprised I didn’t fall asleep. Kudos to Spielberg for keeping the dialogue short and crisp. However, even though I’ve had my heart dissolved in tears in some scenes, War Horse isn’t that extraordinary, sadly. Nevertheless, it’s still a heart-warming adventure of destiny I did…
